I wonder…
Would living in the society portrayed in Brave New World be all that bad?
Let’s say you have a horrible job. But, you’ve been conditioned to like that job ever since you were born, so you can’t possibly dislike it.
You’re put into a caste, corresponding to your physical and mental abilities. You’re content with your caste, and you can’t be concerned about others being treated better. Higher caste members get no more food, drugs or whatever than the members of lower castes.
There’s peace. The whole world is unified into one state, and nobody argues, because they all know their place in society.
People get to take drugs and get laid. A lot. Soma is described as being “the perfect drug. Euphoric, narcotic, pleasantly hallucinant”. also, it’s said to have “all the advantages of Christianity and alcohol; none of their defects”. This only contributes to keeping the population happy.
Families become obsolete. No more having to put up with horrible children.
People learn not to fear death, but to accept it.
And the list could go on.
But, would one be willing to give up individuality, art, love, philosophy, for a life of happiness? Of course, when born into a society such as the one I’m writing about, one would probably not even know of these concepts.
So. I don’t really know? Is it all worth it?

Brave New World e considerata distopie din punctul de vedere al societatii reale. Si alegerea unei vieti dintre cele doua (reala si fictionala) presupune un punct de vedere inspirat (sau conditionat) de una dintre ele.
Nu stiu daca are sens ce-am scris.
